Who We Are
GOVERNANCE
The Jewish Burial Association of Madison (JBAM) is governed by a diverse Board of Directors that includes representatives from Madison’s Jewish synagogues, a Jewish community member not affiliated with a synagogue, and the Chevra Kadisha of Madison. Rabbis from Beth Israel Center, Shaarei Shamayim, Temple Beth El, UW Hillel and Jewish Social Services serve as ex-officio members.
Our current Board of Directors is comprised of:
President - James Stein, unaffiliated
Vice President - Eve Siegel, representing Temple Beth El
Secretary - Judith Blank, representing Beth Israel Center
Treasurer - Terrie Goren, representing the Jewish Federation of Madison
Board member - Bruce Thomadsen, representing the Men’s Chevra Kadisha
Board member - Brian Johnson, representing Shaarei Shamayim
Board member - Marc Shovers, member-at-large
COMMITTEES
All committees operate under the governance of the Board of Directors.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is comprised of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. It executes actions of the Board of Directors, interacts with Sunset Memory Gardens, interacts with contractors and other business partners helps suggest and guide organization direction, and may act (within limitations of the by-laws) when the Board of Directors cannot meet.
Finance Committee
Oversees financial matters of JBAM including budgeting, asset management, sales, billing, receipt collection, deposits, and contracting.
Development Committee
Oversees fundraising and sales campaigns, including strategy and preparation of written and digital material, for the JBAM web page, print, and social media.
Marketing and Communications Committee
Oversees the marketing and communications strategy by building and maintaining strong, strategic relations with stakeholders. Integrates JBAM’s education, public relations, and public policy activities. Oversees JBAM’s print, social media, and internet presence.
Landscape and Beautification Committee
Oversees landscape and beautification activities including layout, vegetation, monuments, and plaques.
CLERGY
Local clergy serve as advisors and non-voting members of the JBAM Board of Directors. Current clergy are as follows:
